Sen. Kaine Questions McMahon on Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness 💬

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., questioned Linda McMahon on Thursday about public service loan forgiveness during her confirmation hearing for education secretary.

“If the DOGE brothers or somebody else tells you, ‘We don’t like these programs and we don’t want you to implement them,’ I can count on you to stand up and fully implement them?” Kaine asked, referring to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

“Yes, because that’s the law,” McMahon responded.

McMahon appeared before the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

She is a former pro-wrestling executive who led the Small Business Administration during President Donald Trump’s first term. She has little background in education policy, serving about a year on the Connecticut State Board of Education.

The Trump administration, along with efficiency czar Musk, is already moving forward with plans to dismantle the Department of Education, which McMahon would lead if confirmed.
