Scientist Who Tried To Breed A Human-ape Hybrid Species #historyfacts #historyfactsdaily
In This Video: Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov was a Russian scientist experimenting in the field of animal hybridization
and artificial insemination. In the early 1900s his most controversial experiment was a proposed human ape hybrid. While the scientific community rejected his proposal to travel to Africa to gather breeds of monkeys. The Russian government gave him the funding needed to carry out the experiment. He originally traveled to French Guinea to inseminate female chimps but none of the females conceived. He decided to instead inseminate human women with chimpanzees sperm. So he returned home with an assortment of chimps. Supposedly five women volunteered for the macabre experiment but the chimps he had brought back died in sub park conditions
before results could be discovered. Then with the purge of Soviet scientists in the 1930s Ivanov was exiled and later died before conducting any more experiments.
