About this video
This is Mike playing Sandy Bells - a piece written by John but never recorded.
It was published in 1995 but the book is now out of print.
John refers to the work of Davey Graham in that book and it's an interesting and mature development of the genre spawned by DG's Anji.
The piece is named after a pub in Edinburgh which John liked to frequent and which was (and is) a haunt of folk musicians - particularly guitarists back in the Folk Revival days.
We used it as a study piece in the 2018 Renbourn workshop in Crete and it now features in the collection of 60 Renbourn Solo instrumentals which has been published by Renbourn Guitar Workshops and is now available to buy online.
