CONTEXT
Muslims had multiple battles with the Eastern Roman Empire and they eventually conquered them in 1453. The Romans lost their Levantine and North African provinces during the Arab Conquests of the Early Middle Ages. The Arabs also conquered Sicily and parts of Southern Italy.
