Richard Avedon :: Dovima with Elephants

In this video we're going to do another one photo deep dive and discuss Richard Avedon's seminal 1955 image, Dovima with Elephants.

This is an extremely significant image shot by a young, 32 year old Richard Avedon who was tearing up the fashion photography scene. It was made for Christian Doir's 1955 Autumn/Winter catalog and featured the first evening gown designed by Doir's 19 year old assistant, Yves Saint-Laurent.

In this video, we'll break down the composition, metaphor and series of contrasts that make this image one of the great fashion pictures of the 1950's.
