"I went bananas for it!" ...is what I'm putting here because I want to see if I can get that picked up as an actual pull quote - who knows these days?
In any case: I actually did - "MONKEY MAN" is a spectacular hard-edged action director/producer/star debut for Dev Patel and a gutsy pickup and theatrical-push for Jordan Peele after the film was originally set-up at Netflix only to be buried ...maybe because Monkey Man's primate-powered punches aren't just aimed at random action movie hench-fodder but at some hard-to-miss real-life allegorical political targets vis-a-vis India's current governing party that the streaming giant didn't want to offend? 🤔
Either way, their loss (or cowardice) is audiences' and the film's gain as Patel delivers veteran-level work, successfully anointing himself a bonafide action star with directorial chops to match - this is the real deal.
