These are the differences between the new residency permit for family members of Spanish citizens and the previous process that used to involve the EU family card or family roots (arraigo familiar).

As of May 20, 2025, family members of Spanish citizens no longer obtain residency through arraigo familiar or the EU family card. They now do so through a new residency permit specifically created for them: the residency for family members of Spanish citizens.
