Why Sharing Economy Thrives 🌍

The sharing economy is one big democratic experiment. It greatly decentralizes decision-making, enabling individual voices to be heard. One thing that is very interesting about democracy is that it gives people autonomy, and as a consequence responsibility. One thing that is always taught in management is if you give people autonomy and responsibility, some people will rise to the challenge and surprise you.

The key is to know that not everyone will rise to the challenge. You need a mechanism to educate individuals. Those that are not willing to rise to the challenge will simply not participate of their own accord. People are very intelligent and can realize their own strengths and weaknesses. In democracies very few people will feel that it is their calling to run for political office, but those that choose too, are often very competent or at least believe they are competent.

The education mechanism is usually provided by the other party at the end of the transaction. The consumer of the product or service is very knowledgeable about their unmet needs and can usually help the seller do a much better job in their future transaction.

Thus, I have high hopes for the sharing economy, and that it will greatly improve the quality of services and products presented to the market.
