Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Uzma Bukhari announced that the Punjab Cabinet has approved a ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), and a formal summary has been forwarded to the federal government for final approval. She clarified that the provincial government’s action is not against any mosque, seminary, or religious belief, but specifically targeted at a violent group involved in inciting unrest. “Imposing one’s ideology in the name of religion is unacceptable,” she said, adding that extremism has grown to alarming levels in recent years. Bukhari stated that a religious group had called for protests in the name of Gaza after a ceasefire had already been declared, and those protests turned violent. “The state has decided that Pakistan can no longer tolerate such bloodshed in the guise of protests,” she emphasized. The minister further added that the government will take strict action under the PECA Act against those spreading hate speech and extremist content online. Additionally, the Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on issuing new arms licenses to curb potential violence.
