Welcome back to RBR. Today we’re driving #Porsche’s best-seller turned full EV: the new #Macan 4 #EV. The Macan has shifted almost a million units as the “affordable Porsche” – a compact SUV with hot hatch ability – and now I see the all-electric version is everywhere on the road. Literally the EV I see most often, so seemingly now slowing the Macan name down at all.
In this video I’m driving the Macan 4 EV, the Goldilocks of Porsche’s electric line-up: around 400 hp, almost 400 miles of claimed range, starting at around £70,000 in the UK. As Porsche’s best-seller, it has to balance performance, range and usability – but it also has to feel like a proper Porsche. The Taycan proved an EV can still have Porsche soul. Can the Macan 4 do the same in a more practical, life-centric package?
We’ll peel back the skin on the Macan EV, look at how it really differs from Taycan and Audi’s Q6, break down every current Macan variant, and – because the car has been on sale a while – talk honestly about used prices and what it’s like to buy and own one in 2025. On top of that, we dive into the upcoming Cayenne EV and Porsche’s massive strategy shift back towards combustion and hybrids, including what that might mean for a future petrol Macan.
We’ll cover:
* Macan 4 EV technical deep-dive: PPE platform, 800-volt, 100 kWh battery
* Charging and range: 270 kW DC, split-pack fast-charging and real-world usability
* New PSM motors, SiC inverters, and how it differs from Taycan and Audi Q6
* Macan 4 performance and variants: Macan, Macan 4, 4S and Turbo
* Design walkaround: stance, aero, off-road pack, storage and practicality
* Interior upgrades vs old Macan and Taycan – screens, themes and ergonomics
* Porsche app and Charging Service: planning routes, live charger integration and costs
* Used market reality: how the Macan EV is holding up vs Taycan depreciation
* Porsche’s strategy shift: billions back into ICE and hybrid, future ICE Macan?
* Full driving review: range, comfort, chassis, steering feel and whether it feels like a Porsche
The Taycan has rightly become the purist’s choice in the EV world, proving that an electric car can still drive like a proper Porsche. The Macan 4 brings that formula to a more usable segment, with a cabin that, after living with it, feels a clear step above the Taycan in ergonomics and structure, and a powertrain that makes day-to-day life much easier than most mid-size EVs.
This Macan 4 might not be as explosive as the Turbo – I suspect that will be the real “statement” car and I’ll review it soon – but dynamically it absolutely has the feel of a Porsche, and it sits in a segment where nothing else quite matches its blend of range, packaging and driving ability.
If you want a daily EV that is holding up well on the used market, offers genuinely decent range, and still feels like a Porsche from behind the wheel, the Macan 4 should be right at the top of your list.
Would you choose this over a Taycan, or over one of the more generic mid-size EV SUVs? Watch and decide! :)
