About this video
As part of its ongoing modernization efforts, the Armed Forces of the Philippines formally welcomed the BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07), the Philippine Navy’s newest and most advanced guided-missile frigate, during an arrival ceremony held at the Naval Operating Base in Subic Zambales.
While across the bay of Zambales, near Scarborough shoal, China fires water cannon at Philippine ships, in its latest series of confrontations, between China and the Philippines, in the crucial waterway. China's Coast Guard said on Tuesday it fired water cannon at Philippine ships near the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea, and the Philippines accused Beijing of aggressive action that injured one person.
Two Chinese ships used water cannons while harassing the Philippine vessels of the Philippine Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, as it delivered supplies to Filipino fishermen near Scarborough Shoal, a Philippine Coast Guard spokesman stated.
The arrival of the BRP Diego Silang, a 3,200-tonne guided-missile frigate, hopes to deter Chinese aggression in the disputed waters, as it offers the promise of greater surveillance and deterrence – as one of the most powerful warships in South east Asia. The delivery of Philippines most modern warship, marking a milestone of Philippine Navy’s efforts to strengthen its maritime defenses in the West Philippine Sea.
At a ceremony held on Monday in a naval base in Subic Bay, Philippine military chief General Romeo Brawner Junior said, the new vessel “represents their relentless pursuit of a more capable and credible Philippine Navy. It reflects years of hard work, planning and cooperation with its allies and partners.”
