THE IDEA IN 10 SECONDS
To make a low-cost documentary series (we don't need 5 star hotels, drivers, massages or Michelin restaurants) of 10 one hour episodes approaching the 10 most followed religions in the world. An unpretentious style from the perspective of a layman that realized he had to understand how different religions worked and how they actually affected people's LIVES.

For now we are seeking support to make the first episode, an exciting pilot about Judaism, shot mainly in Israel.

BACKGROUND
Hi! We are Pedro, André and Priscilla, a team that came together with an idea of doing something different.

This idea came to be in 2011 after I, Pedro, decided to quit my psychologist job and go and see the world. In this trip of 10 months, 50 thousand km overland and 34 countries, I had the opportunity of getting to know and interact with all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds and religious creeds. And I realized that I, someone I considered well informed in general, knew next to nothing about all these different religions.

So I thought about making a documentary about it. I thought and realized the obvious - There are already loads of documentaries about this! - But I also realized that usually they are, well, boring! So much so it's like they were all done by the same guys! Academics that try to teach us something assuming we already know something else.

I wanted to do something different, something enticing. Something lighthearted and fun, but interesting and profound at the same time. An unpretentious documentary hosted by a layman who goes to the country relevant to the episode and talks to the folk, whether they are random people on the street or prestigious figures for the religion in question.

And then I met André and Priscilla, founders of Lula Gigante Produções, who wanted to do this with me. The timing couldn't be better. It was no longer my thing, but our thing.

And soon it will be your thing as well.

WHI IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Whether we follow any religion or not, we have to appreciate the fact that it is something that shapes the world we live in and touches the LIVES of billions of people across the globe.

It is also something that leads to stereotypes, prejudice and ultimately, discrimination. Ignorance being the main cause. We live so engrossed in our own LIVES and little worlds that we rarely dare to see beyond, falling prey to the laziness of stereotyping.

We believe that if we understand the different practices better, and the ways in which religion affects the LIVES of the people that practice them, from the regular guy that passes us on the street to the prestigious leader, perhaps we can understand and tolerate each other better.

WHAT DO WE NEED?
Glad you asked! Our goal is to make a make a low-cost documentary series of 10 one hour episodes approaching the 10 most followed religions in the world. For now all we need is your help to kick it off with a pilot episode about Judaism, shot mainly in Israel. We'll take it from there.

Since we don't really care much for flying in first class, having a person driving us around in a silver BMW or sleeping in 7 star hotels, we don't need much to make this happen.

In the month we will spend in Israel, we will need 6100€. Please take into consideration we are 3 people staying 30 days in Israel.

It breaks down as follows:

1800€ - Accommodation
1800€ - Food
900€ - Flights from Portugal to Israel and back
500€ - Occasional car rental
500€ - Equipment (Perch & Microphone)
500€ - Local staff (translators, fixers, etc)
100€ - Equipment insurance

If we get more money than we asked for, we will either use it to shoot the second episode of the series, if it is enough, or invest in equipment. Either way, we will let you know.
