Nova Scotia 5-Day Itinerary 🇨🇦 | Halifax & Cape Breton

Day 1: Halifax

Morning: Explore Halifax Harbour; visit the Maritime Museum and Bluenose II replica.

Lunch: Fish & chips by the harbour.

Afternoon: Shop for souvenirs at downtown gift shops.

Evening: Visit the Halifax Citadel for city views.
Overnight in Halifax.


- Day 2: Peggy’s Cove & Lunenburg

Morning: Drive from Halifax to Peggy’s Cove (45 minutes). Visit the Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse.
Lunch: Seafood en route to Lunenburg (1 hour 15 minutes from Peggy’s Cove).

Afternoon: Explore Lunenburg; visit the Fisheries Museum and stroll through the historic town.

Evening: Early dinner & Depart Lunenburg and drive to Cape Breton Island (approximately 4.5 hours). Pass through Baddeck as you enter the island.

Overnight on Cape Breton Island.


- Day 3: Cape Breton Island

Morning: Begin the Cabot Trail drive. Stop at scenic lookouts.

Afternoon: Hike the Skyline Trail (1-2 hours round trip).

Late Afternoon: Visit a nearby waterfall, such as Mary Ann Falls (short hike from parking).

Evening: Enjoy a relaxed evening after your day of exploration.

- Day 4: Cape Breton Island - Nature & Wildlife

Morning: Drive to Big Bras d'Or for a Bird Island Tour (1 hour from where you stayed overnight).

Afternoon: Drive to a coastal location for whale watching (1-2 hours, depending on location).

Evening: Experience local music and dining at a nearby inn or venue.

- Day 5: Explore More of Cape Breton & Return to Halifax

Morning: Continue exploring the Cabot Trail; stop at scenic lookouts and small villages along the way.

Afternoon: Optionally visit the Fortress of Louisbourg (2-3 hours from Cabot Trail) or explore more of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

Evening: Drive back to Halifax (around 4 hours from Louisbourg or 4.5 hours from the Cabot Trail area).
