About this video

What is the Bloop sound?
In 1997, the U.S. Navy and NOAA โ€” the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration โ€” picked up a sound deep in the Pacific Ocean. It was louder than a blue whale, traveled across thousands of kilometers, and had a signature never heard before. They called it โ€œThe Bloop.โ€ Some said it was cracking ice. Others believed it was something alive. But no known creature could have made it. Thenโ€ฆ the sound disappeared. Years later, another unexplained sound emerged: the Upsweep โ€” long, rising tones that continue to this day.
