Nishir Daak Web Series Review: Better Than Voger? 👻

In this video, I review the recently released **Hoichoi web series *Nishir Daak*** — a supernatural drama that walks the line between horror and emotion. While it’s definitely better than most Bengali horror shows on the platform, it still feels *middling* — weighed down by predictability and dated tropes.

*Nishir Daak* tries to blend the classic **“Cabin in the Woods”** setup with a **period curse** told through non-linear flashbacks. The story also leans heavily on the **“unfinished business” ghost trope** — where the spirit isn’t evil, just restless due to an unresolved past. It’s an idea we’ve seen countless times, and that familiarity limits its impact.

But horror is more than ghosts or jump scares — it’s about fear itself. The truly great horror stories, like *Session 9* or *Lake Mungo*, show that the scariest ghosts are not external; they’re the manifestations of our *own internal disintegration and fear of being forgotten.*
That’s where *Nishir Daak* misses the mark — it looks scary but doesn’t feel scary. It’s haunting in appearance, not in essence.

Still, compared to the usual OTT horror content from Bengali platforms, it’s a step forward — better crafted, better acted, and at least visually polished. But for real genre fans, it leaves you wanting more depth, more darkness, and more meaning.
