🏛️ A Bit of History
The South Village is part of the larger Greenwich Village area and is known for its deep immigrant history. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this neighborhood became home to large Italian-American communities, many of whom lived and worked in the small buildings that still line these streets today.
Unlike the more modern parts of Manhattan, the South Village preserved much of its original scale — low-rise buildings, narrow streets, and a neighborhood feel that reflects old New York.
Nearby Washington Square Park has long been a cultural and social center, attracting artists, musicians, and students for generations. The park’s famous arch, completed in 1891, remains one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city.
