Netanyahu: Prison Rape Video Damaged Israel’s Image

“This is perhaps the most severe media failure that the State of Israel has experienced since its establishment."

Prime Minister Netanyahu said the leaked video of a rape attack on a Palestinian detainee at Sde Teiman prison caused immense damage to the image of the State of Israel, the IDF, and its soldiers.

The leaked footage showed soldiers assaulting and raping a blindfolded Palestinian prisoner, using riot shields to obscure the attack.

The indictment reports 15 minutes of kicking, stomping, hitting with clubs, dragging, and tasering, leaving the victim with severe internal and external injuries that required surgery.

The soldiers later appeared at a press conference in masks, out of fear of identification and potential international prosecution.

Critics say Netanyahu’s statement reveals he is more concerned about Israel’s international reputation than the suffering of Palestinians.
