Simona Cochi joined the Press Preview of Nanda Vigo- Light Project hosted at Palazzo Reale
From 23 July to 29 September 2019.

Promoted by the Municipality of Milan | Culture, Palazzo Reale, Curated by Marco Meneguzzo in collaboration with the Nanda Vigo Archive and Donatella Volonté, the exhibition is part of the path with which Palazzo Reale, for the fourth consecutive year, explores contemporary art in summer programming, deepening and enhancing the work of masters of Italian art from the second post-war period to the present and the relationship they had with the city of Milan where they lived, created and elaborated their own research, as in the specific case of Nanda Vigo.
Light Project is in fact the first retrospective retrospective dedicated by an Italian institution to this Milanese artist and architect who has influenced the Italian and European art scene of the last fifty years: through the exhibition of about eighty works - between projects, sculptures and installations - the exhibition tells the exceptional path of research of a figure of absolute importance in the European panorama, from the beginning to the end of the Fifties up to the most current experiences.

Protagonist of the Milanese cultural climate of the Sixties, Nanda Vigo (Milan, 1936) began to realize her Cronotopi since 1962, in harmony with the spirit of ZERO, a transnational group of German, Dutch, French, Belgian, Swiss and Italian artists to whom He took part.

Taking part in the avant-gardes and groups of the early sixties, Nanda Vigo elaborates a personal research focused on light, transparency, immateriality, which must constitute the work and the same environment inhabited by the human being, and whose “chronotopes "Are the artistic realization. A metal chassis encloses industrial glasses, sometimes illuminated by neon, through which light penetrates and manifests itself to the eye, a metaphor for lightness, mutation, the spiritual immateriality of art and its perception. Soon they take the form of real environments (some made in collaboration with Lucio Fontana) and inclined and cut mirrors to reflect an unexpected vision of reality, while design and architecture work continues (his collaboration is famous with Gio Ponti for the Casa sotto la foglia, in Malo, 1965, and the construction of the Remo Brindisi Museum in Lido di Spina in 1967).
The eighties are characterized by adherence to the concepts of postmodernism, while the subsequent production returns to the seductive algidity of neon, of radiant and diffuse lights, of simple and dynamic forms.
