MPC stands for multi party computation. And you can think of it as shattering that single key into pieces and distributing those pieces to different people. So no one person holds the whole key, but together they can authorize actions. In fact, no one actually has the whole key. Think of it such that if you need to sign a document, with MPC, you and a group of trusted individuals each have a piece of a special pen, and only by combining all the pieces you create a complete signature.
