During the Club World Cup quarter-final between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the match took a devastating turn just before halftime.
Jamal Musiala, Bayern’s 22-year-old wonderkid, was chasing down a loose ball near the byline. As he squeezed between PSG defender Willian Pacho and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Italian keeper dove in full-force.
In that instant, Musiala’s ankle — and possibly his lower leg — became trapped under Donnarumma’s body. The twist was horrific.
He screamed out in pain. His foot was visibly bent at a sickening angle.
His teammates rushed to him — Harry Kane immediately called for the medics, while others turned away, unable to watch.
On the other end of the pitch, Donnarumma dropped to his knees. He covered his face with his gloves, clearly devastated by what had happened. Players from both teams came over to console him. It was a powerful, human moment that went far beyond football.
Medics treated Musiala on the field before he was stretchered off, hands over his face, and taken directly to a waiting ambulance.
