Mom Red Fox Catches Snakes, Fish & a Skunk for Dinner

After mom red fox's long nap, she nurses her pups and then goes back out hunting. Over the next two days, she brings back lots of small rodents, like voles, mice, and moles, but also a few surprises. I have not seen snakes or skunks delivered before, but they get offered up next. The snakes don't seem to be eaten by the pups. But the pups play with them on camera for the next few days. Sometimes when mom delivers food, she also has to find where her pups are. There are 2 den entrances at the birth den and three entrances at the new den, so that is 5 places they could be. When she delivers the fish, she doesn't find the pups until the 3rd den. The red fox pups are getting more feisty, and they fight & gekker over baby rabbits that were delivered. The pup that winds the fight likes to run with it into the lower den entrance. Mom fox is still nursing the pups, but not as often. The next day, mom fox will go rabbit hunting. The footage is from April 22nd-24th. This nature documentary shows wild red foxes living in northern New York on Lake Ontario, as seen from my trail camera footage. 🦊🦊
