To be successful at rounding, make sure you know the rules for counting significant figures.

Rules for rounding:

► If the first digit dropped is 4 or less, the last kept digit remains the same.

For example:

1) Round 0.08245 to 2 significant digits →

2) Round 4.4035 to 3 significant digits →

► If the first digit dropped is 5 or more, the last kept digit goes up by 1.
○ However, if the last kept digit is even and it's followed by a 5 only, the last kept number remains the same.

For example:
