A few years ago I created a set of presentations for a group of high school students on the fundamentals of classical cryptology. I decided to turn them into videos in the event someone else might find them useful.

This video is the first of three presentations that walk through the basics of substitution ciphers and how they work. We'll explore what makes a substitution cipher work, and how they can be used to encrypt and decrypt secret messages.
