Massive Riots Rock Lahore As Pakistan Suspends Internet; Rawalpindi, Islamabad Turn Fortresses

On October 11, 2025, violent clashes erupted in Lahore during the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP)'s "Gaza March," a protest led by Saad Rizvi against Pakistan's perceived support for a US-brokered Israel-Hamas ceasefire. What began as rallies in early October escalated after police raids on TLP offices, leading to confrontations at locations like Yateem Khana Chowk and Shahdara. Protesters threw stones, seized police vehicles, and set barricades on fire while attempting to march toward Islamabad, prompting security forces to respond with tear gas, rubber bullets, and road blockades, including internet suspensions in key cities.

The TLP reported 11 supporters killed and over 50 injured in police actions, with independent sources confirming at least two deaths and injuries to around 15 officers. Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry accused the group of using the Gaza issue for political leverage, resulting in the arrest and remand of 110 activists under anti-terrorism laws. The unrest has shut down schools, businesses, and transport in Lahore, highlighting tensions over religious mobilization and government stability amid the ongoing sit-in near Ravi Bridge.
