About this video

Alan Turing, left, who helped crack the German Enigma code during World War II, will be the next person whose face will feature on the £50 note, the Bank of England has confirmed. The mathematician, who is known as the 'father of computer science', was selected from a list of 989 candidates nominated by the public after the bank last year asked them to put forward scientific figures for consideration. The new polymer £50 note, pictured right, is expected to enter circulation by the end of 2021.
