Madhura Kshanam: An Educational Film with Sensational Posters

Madhura Kshanam claims that it is an educational film, while the posters manage to portray an exaggerated picture of the very few sleaze scenes in it to woo the viewers. And as expected, the film turns out to be a melodrama with AIDS serving as the backdrop.<br /><br />Kiriti and Anuja are two medical students who plan to get married. On their engagement day a boy meets with an accident, and when Kiriti volunteers to give blood, he is tested for his blood and declared HIV positive. His world is shattered and his family shuns him, but Anuja sticks to her guns about marrying him. A flashback shows that he had a one-night stand with a Manipuri girl (how original), and hence the affliction.<br /><br />After some stupid melodrama, Anuja marries Kiriti against everyone's wishes. The second half shows all the ways in which AIDS can spread. This is shown in the form of different patients coming to Anuja's hospital. Anuja wages war against AIDS by speaking to the CM about it and creating awareness about the disease throughout the state.<br /><br />In that way, the film succeeds as it gives a very graphic description of the ill effects of AIDS and does shake the viewer. But as said earlier, if this film had been more logically made by giving some respect to the tenets of filmmaking, it would have been a much stronger film in terms of the impact.
