GEARS: SPUR AND HELICAL

QUESTIONS:
1. Find the tooth thickness on the pitch circle of a 14 ½ degree full depth tooth of 12 diametral pitch.

2. A gear set having a gear ratio of 3 is to be used at a center distance of 10”. If the gear has 60 teeth, what must be the circular pitch, in inch?

3. Find the tooth thickness of a gear if it has a diametral pitch of 4.

4. An internal gear is set up with a 5” diameter pinion at a center distance of 18”. Find the diameter of the annular gear.

5. A machinist made two 8 diametrical pitch spur gears to be mounted at a center distance of 10 inches with a SR of 7:9.
Determine the number of teeth in each gear.

6. A spur pinion rotates at 1800 rpm and transmits to a mating gear of 30 hp. The pitch diameter is 4” and the angle of obliquity is 14 1/2. Determine the tangential force on the gear in lbs.

7. A pair of meshing helical gears has a diametral pitch of 5 and a normal circular pitch of 0.55”. Determine the helix angle.

8. Two meshing helical gears have a 30 degree helix angle and a 0.5” normal circular pitch. The number of teeth is 15 and 45. Determine the center distance.
