LUCY’S LOST EPISODES
RARE SKETCHES YOU’LL NEVER SEE IN “I LOVE LUCY” RERUNS!
Lucille Ball’s extraordinary talent carried her beyond her highly popular series “I Love Lucy”, “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”, “The Lucy Show”, and “Here’s Lucy”. With husband Desi Arnaz (who played Ricky Ricardo) and cast members Vivian Vance (Ethel Mertz) and William Frawley (Fred Mertz) she was a frequent guest of other celebrities on their shows during the Golden Age of TV. You’ll see them on a 1954 live broadcast, “Toast of the Town”, in which host Ed Sullivan gets manhandled when he pays a visit to their home. In this hilarious sketch, the three of them crack up when Ed actually laughs. In 1955, Lucy and Desi stumped the “What’s My Line?” panelists with their disguised voices and back and forth answers. The following year, they appeared on “The Bob Hope Show” in an unusual skit in which Lucy hides a seal in the closet and the actors switch roles, with Bob playing Ricky, Desi as Fred, and William Frawley making an unusual appearance as a sea captain. In 1956, the couple also returned to “Toast of the Town” to give a “subtle” plug to their new movie, “Forever Darling” and Lucy winds up pretending to be one of the Ames Brothers. In 1959, a promotional film—never aired on TV—was produced for Westinghouse, the new sponsor of “Desilu Playhouse”. This unique look at the Desilu Studio (formerly owned by RKO where Lucy and Desi first met and fell in love) contains a wealth of early TV history as well as lots of laughs. You’ll see Ken Murray’s “home movie” footage of Lucy plus rare outtakes she showed as Bob Hope’s and later Steve Lawrence’s guest. Wait until you see the bloopers with Lucy and the porpoises plus other rediscovered moments that only Lucy could bring to the world!
