LPG Crisis Sparks Panic & Long Queues Across India 🛢️

A commercial LPG cylinder shortage has triggered panic buying across India, with long queues forming at gas agencies in cities from Uttar Pradesh to Tamil Nadu. Videos of citizens lining up have gone viral, with concerns rising that domestic cylinders could be affected next. Restaurants are adapting by shifting to firewood cooking, as seen in popular outlets in Hyderabad and Chennai, while many have reduced menus or shut down temporarily. In Ayodhya, the Ram Rasoi is closed, and Delhi High Court canteens are serving limited items like sandwiches. The Bengaluru Paying Guest Association has advised shared cooking and use of electric rice cookers. Indian Oil Corporation has urged citizens to use pressure cookers to conserve gas. The central government has stated that gas companies have procured LNG cargos, with two shipments expected to arrive within days to strengthen supply. With 50% of crude oil imports and 85% of LPG supplies coming through the Strait of Hormuz, the government is exploring alternative sources and routes amid the West Asia conflict.
