About this video
A light year is an astronomical unit of distance. It's equivalent to the distance light travels in a vacuum in one Julian year (365.25 days). Its value is roughly 9.46 trillion km (6 trillion mi). Since light travels at a finite velocity, everything we see in the universe is how it looked in the past. Hence, if an object is 10 light years away, this means that light took 10 years to reach us from that object, and thus it appears how it used to be 10 years ago.
