About this video
Doing laundry right the first time is key, and it starts the moment you take off your clothes!
Pretreat stains right away, spray and drop, then let time do the work. Stain treatments work best when they have time to break things down, but do not leave them on for more than a week. Detergent and machines are great, but direct care before washing always makes a difference. For more help with stain removal head to my free resources: AskJeevesNY.com and TheCleanClub.com
Sorting matters more than most people think. Sort by color to prevent bleeding and by weight to help your clothes dry evenly. Heavy items like jeans and towels slow down drying time, leaving lighter garments overcooked, wrinkled, and worn out. Cold water is ideal for most loads, about 85 degrees Fahrenheit / 30 degrees Celsius, gentle on fabric but still powerful enough to clean.
When drying, avoid cranking up the heat. Lower heat and longer cycles are safer for your clothes, and stopping when they are slightly damp helps reduce wrinkles and static. Dryer sheets might help with pet hair, but they are just liquid softener in disguise. Mesh bags will save your socks, and using less detergent will save your wardrobe.
