In this video are ranked the world's leading economies over time (from 1600 to 2025) using Nominal GDP data. The analysis are based on the IMF World Economic Outlook (WEO) database, supplemented by sources like the Maddison Project Database for the period 1600-1900.
Historical figures before 1900 are rough indicators of relative economic size and order of magnitude only. The numbers represent Nominal GDP in the current US dollars of their time, without any inflation adjustments.
The "current USD" value is a highly theoretical construct for comparison, especially for periods before the US dollar existed.
