About this video
This hike from the Roque de Agando to Playa Santiago (near Valle Gran Rey) gives a good overview of the various landscapes on La Gomera in the Canary Islands, and a chance to try the local food!
It crosses the laurel forest near Roque de Agando, stunning palm groves at the foot of the gorge, and finally, vast bush landscapes made of balsam, milkweed, and weaver thistles very close to the idyllic rural village of Benchijigua, whose houses are scattered between the cultivated areas.
Along this trail, you will see remnants of old villages and banana plantations
With a distance of 14 kilometers and a difference in altitude of more than 1,200 meters, this hiking trail takes around five hours. The path runs over paved roads and beautiful hiking trails and offers views of landscapes in which time seems to have stood still, such as various villages that were abandoned in the middle of the last century or old banana plantations in the area around Puerto Santiago. Please pay attention to sturdy shoes and sun protection! At the halfway point of this trail, you will find a nice restaurant in the town of Imada, we highly recommend getting lunch there.
