King Kong (1933) is a groundbreaking adventure and monster film directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack. The story follows ambitious filmmaker Carl Denham, who leads a crew to the mysterious Skull Island to shoot a movie. There they discover Kong, a colossal ape worshipped by the island’s inhabitants. After Kong becomes fascinated with actress Ann Darrow, he is captured and transported to New York City to be displayed as “the Eighth Wonder of the World.”
Kong escapes captivity, rampaging through the city in a desperate attempt to protect Ann. The film reaches its legendary climax atop the Empire State Building, where Kong battles airplanes before his tragic fall. Renowned for its pioneering stop-motion effects by Willis O'Brien, the film became a landmark in cinema history and remains one of the most influential monster movies ever made.
