About this video

In its formative stages, this song had dummy lyrics that went like "I'll be a son of a gun, look what you done" about a relationship gone bad. KC was not happy with the song, and was inspired when he thought about the DJ's who played his band's music in the clubs. That's when the lyric "I'm your boogie man" came out and he finished the song making the DJ the subject and working in the idea that he was there to help and make you feel better. On the album Part 3, it segues directly into "Keep It Comin' Love" keeping the dancers on the floor and preaching to the masses to not give up, the Rev KC was testifying! He felt that many fight to get somewhere to get ahead, but end up quitting just before they would have succeeded and these two songs together got the message out there. The chart ascension of "I'm Your Boogie Man" made it their fourth #1 hit of the 70's and made them the second group to do so. The Jackson Five first did it with "ABC", "I Want You Back", "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There"...KC & The Sunshine Band followed this up with "Keep It Comin' Love" that peaked at #2 that fall and broke the longstanding habit of having one song reach #1 and then the follow ups did not even break top 20. The floundered a bit before the end of the decade, but came up with a change in beat for "Please Don't Go" their last #1 hit, and the first #1 of the 1980's. In total they had five #1 hits and helped to define pop music in the disco era.
