The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA *pronounced A.I. Double A*) is a student organization that is dedicated to bringing aerospace opportunities to Birmingham. All engineering, business, and marketing majors are welcome to join!

Being a member of AIAA provides many opportunities to network with aerospace professionals at NASA, ULA, and the Department of Defense. In addition, we attend many aerospace conferences in the area where we are granted the opportunity to present our research and represent UAB on a national level! Every year we participate in the international Design Build Fly (DBF) competition where we design an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or aircraft, that is capable of carrying payloads, towing banners, towing sensors, and more! This year we placed 3rd in the nation for our design proposal, and we accomplished this feat without an aerospace department! We need engineering majors to help design and test the mechanical, electrical, and structural components of the aircraft. In addition, we rely on dedicated business students and marketing majors to help us budget for the competition, connect with sponsors, design promotional content, and manage our social media pages.
