Whether its his creepy painted smile, shapeshifting abilities or just the fact that image of him popping out the drain is burned into every persons head whos ever seen it. Something about It often scares people for lifetimes. Recently I was working on my IT Mini Series breakdown and my kids come in just as they saw Georgies boat drift down the drain. They caught a glimpse of Pennywise and I saw in real time the trauma forming in them of an image that would stick with them forever. Mainly because it stuck with me as well. Like the losers club in the story…I’m now an adult and Ive forgotten a lot of things from when I was younger. However like them memories started to come back as I saw flashes of things id experienced. This was something that brought it all back for me and reminded me of how scared I was seeing this moment as a kid. Yaaay for generational trauma. But what is it about It that endures so long and what is it about the character thats so enticing. After all Pennywise has terrified generations across books, the miniseries, films and now a TV show in Welcome to Derry.
