Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz Announces Long-term Military Presence in Syria

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said that the Israeli army is "preparing to stay" in Syria for an "indefinite period".

He made the declaration during a visit to Israeli military outposts in Syria on the summit of strategic Mount Hermon.

This comes after Syrian state media reported multiple Israeli air strikes in the southern province of Daraa on Monday night.

Since the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad in December, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes in Syria.

Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa last week urged the international community to exert pressure on Israel and have them withdraw from Syria.
