- Kendriya Vidyalayas or KVs as normally called continue to go from strength to strength. The chain of schools was set up in 1963 and is one of the leading chains of schools in the country.
- KVS was set up in 1963 with 20 Regimental Schools.
- Initially, 20 Regimental Schools, then functioning at places having large concentrations of defence personnel, were taken over as Central Schools during the academic year 1963-64.
- To cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government including Defence and Paramilitary personnel by providing a common programme of education.
- Today there are a total of 1250+ KVs which include three in Foreign Countries – Nepal (Kathmandu), Iran (Tehran) and Russia (Moscow).
- Known for its holistic focus, KVS is one of the few schools that offer all the sports, games, activities and the largest scope of subjects offered by CBSE to its students.
- KVS believes in imparting knowledge/values and nurturing the talent, enthusiasm and creativity of its students to seek excellence through high-quality educational endeavours.
- In KV school, no tuition fee for boys up to Class VIII, girls up to Class XII and SC/ST students and children of KVS employees.
- Sanskrit is taught from class VI-VIII.
- The entire student population is divided into four houses: Shivaji, Tagore, Ashoka and Raman.
