About this video
In this video lesson you will be introduced to the method Elimination which can be used to solve a system of linear equations. We will first review the definition of like terms, coefficient, and opposites. We will use these terms to identify a pair of like terms with either the same or opposite coefficients. You will discover the 5 steps to solving a system of linear equations using elimination where like variable terms will be eliminated when you either add the two equations together or subtract one equation from the other. We will find the ordered pair that is a solution to both equations. We will also check our solution to verify our work. Student practice is embedded in the lesson with modeled exemplar solutions.

Common Core Math Standards
8.EE.C.8 Analyze and solve pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
8.EE.C.8.A Understand that solutions to a system of two linear equations in two variables correspond to points of intersection of their graphs, because points of intersection satisfy both equations simultaneously.
8.EE.C.8.B Solve systems of two linear equations in two variables algebraically, and estimate solutions by graphing the equations. Solve simple cases by inspection.
