About this video
In this video, we start looking at named entity recognition (NER), a natural language processing (NLP) task for information extraction (IE). NER allows researchers to automate the process of identifying people, places, dates, and other labels in texts. In this series, we will look at rules-based methods for performing NER, but mostly focus on machine learning-based methods. This series is designed for digital humanists, so it will not use complex terminology unless necessary and that terminology will be explained. The concepts of machine learning, while useful, are not essential for performing NER in Python because of the great library, spaCy. In this series we will train a custom NER model in spaCy with custom labels.
