About this video

70mm film doubles the width of the filmstrip compared to 35mm.
The negative is actually a 65mm filmstrip, but the projection Strip is 70mm to house 6 tracks of stereoscopic sound
70mm first became a standard in 1928 under the brand name “Fox Grandeur”.
The format was considered too expensive in times of the great depression.
In 1952 Todd-AO was introduced to simplify the three-Strip Cinerama process.
Panavision developed their own 70mm formats with MGMs Camera 65
The anamorphic process was coined Ultra Panavision 70 and brought us movies like Ben Hur and The Hateful Eight
The spherical process was coined Super Panavision 70 and brought us movies like Lawrence of Arabia and 2001: A Space Odyssey
IMAX uses the same 70mm film, but moving the film horizontally producing roughly 3 times the surface at a higher aspect ratio.
