India has taken a historic leap in aviation. State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed an MoU with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to jointly produce civil passenger jets in India. The deal, announced in Moscow, aims to manufacture the SJ-100 - a 100-seater aircraft - marking India’s first step into the passenger jet market long dominated by Boeing and Airbus. The partnership, however, comes with geopolitical weight.
