Imran Khan Leads Massive Support Rally in Peshawar 🇵🇰

Thousands rallied in Peshawar on September 27 in support of Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is governed by Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Khan called the rally a demonstration for the “nation’s freedom,” drawing crowds from across Pakistan’s provinces and regions. His sister, Aleema Khan, also attended. A former cricket star, Khan became prime minister in 2018 but was ousted in 2022 after falling out with the military. His arrest in May 2023 triggered nationwide protests and a harsh crackdown on PTI. Khan denies wrongdoing, claiming the charges are politically motivated to weaken his party. Hundreds of PTI members, including parliamentarians, were convicted for protests linked to Khan’s arrest. In the 2024 elections, PTI emerged as the largest party but alleges vote rigging denied it more seats. Other parties formed a coalition government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who denies electoral fraud.
