About this video
Huey Lewis and the News - Back in Time – Mill Valley, Live, 10-15-17, 1st row, Sweetwater Music Hall. Huey: Because we’re not getting paid, we get to play whatever we want to play! lol Home sweet home!
Other Tidbits:
Huey: The last time I played a set in downtown Mill Valley was 41 years ago. And just to show how far my career has gone, that was at the Old Mill Tavern. So in 41 years, I’ve gone from the Old Mill Tavern right here in the Sweetwater. But… we have a much bigger truck now. lol
(The Old Mill Tavern was ~1 block away from the Sweetwater. The band’s truck is now an 18-wheeler, which was parked just outside. :P)
Huey Lewis and the News returned to their native Marin County for two special benefit shows celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Mill Valley Film Festival, held at the Sweetwater Music Hall, which has an intimate capacity of ~90 fans. Proceeds benefited the initial planning stages of the capital campaign to restore Mill Valley's treasured Sequoia Theater across the street. Tickets were $110 and sold out almost instantly. Mark Fishkin, Founder/Director of the Mill Valley Film Festival said that the band will have a special place on the wall of the future site. Huey: “I love being on walls!” lol
“I’m not going to get paid and I’ll know half the people there, so I can do whatever the hell I want, which means they’re going to hear new songs.” The two shows were performed back to back, at 7pm and 9pm. Many fans went to both.
“The ones you don’t recognize are the new songs” lol
For 3 songs on the setlist, Huey took a poll of the audience to see which one they wanted to hear. The choices were: If This Is It/Doing It All for My Baby, Hip to Be Square/Back in Time, and Do You Believe in Love/Stuck with You.
BTW. the 2 A.M. Club, the Mill Valley bar featured on the cover art of the album 'Sports', still looks very much the same and even still has the toilet seat guitar seen in the background. :P
Setlist:
1. The Heart of Rock & Roll
2. Remind Me Why I Love You Again (New song)
3. The Boys Are Back in Town (Thin Lizzy cover)
4. He Don't Know
5. Hurry Back Baby (New song)
6. If This Is It
7. Back in Time
8. While We're Young (New song)
9. Do You Believe in Love (Supercharge cover)
10. Her Love Is Killing Me (New song)
11. The Power of Love
