In today’s video, we’ll walk you through the simple steps on how to unlink Google Photos from your phone’s gallery. If your photos are automatically syncing to Google Photos and you want to stop this to save space or for privacy reasons, we’ve got you covered. So without wasting any more time, let’s get straight into the video.
To begin, open the Google Photos app on your device.
You may notice that all your gallery images are automatically backed up to your Google account. Since every Google account only comes with 15GB of free storage, it's smart to be selective with what you back up—especially if you also use that space for Gmail, Google Drive, or other Google services.
Now to unlink your gallery from Google Photos backup,
tap on your profile icon in the top-right corner of the Google Photos app. Then, select the “Photos settings” option. Inside this menu, you’ll find a section called “Backup.” Tap on it to continue.
Once you’re in the Backup settings,
you’ll see a toggle switch for “Back up & sync.” Simply turn off this toggle by sliding it to the left. This will immediately stop Google Photos from backing up your gallery photos to the cloud. Keep in mind, this does not delete your existing backups—only prevents new uploads.
And that’s it!
