Substituting Values into Algebraic Expressions

An algebraic expression is a mathematical expression that has variables (letters that stand for numbers) and numbers. Substituting values into an algebraic expression means replacing the variables with actual numbers.

To substitute values into an algebraic expression, you just need to write the expression out again, but this time you replace the variables with the given numbers. Substituting values into algebraic expressions can be helpful for solving problems, or for understanding how the expression works.
