Background: With roots in the years of the Byzantine Empire, the 'hasapiko' (χασάπικο) has become perhaps the most famous Greek dance to non-Greeks since it was choreographed as the 'sirtaki' (συρτάκι) for Anthony Quinn in the 1964 film 'Zorba the Greek'. It is sometimes also called the "sailors' dance."
