Detecting Deepfakes: How to Spot AI-Generated Content

Can technology help us figure out what's real or fake online?

Turns out, there are some aspects of the physical world that are not yet known to artificial intelligence - and those gaps can help us detect deepfakes. Expert Hany Farid reveals techniques that can be used to detect AI-generated media, but warns that you still shouldn't rely on your own eyes to spot a fake online.

Hany Farid is a Professor at the UC Berkeley School of Information. In addition to teaching at UC Berkeley, Hany is Chief Science Officer at GetReal Security, a company that focuses on the authentication of digital media. His research focuses on digital forensics, forensic science, misinformation, image analysis, and human perception. He has published dozens of papers on how humans relate to AI and technology.
