About this video
How a bronze sculpture is made, in under a minute: The artist begins with an idea and creates a full-size model in clay, wax, or plaster. A rubber mould is made to capture fine details, then a wax replica is cast from it. This wax model is dipped in ceramic and sand multiple times to form a thick shell. The ceramic shell is heated, melting out the wax to leave a hollow mould. Molten bronze is poured in, and after cooling, the ceramic shell is broken away. The bronze is cleaned, smoothed, and patinated to a desired colour. This ancient process, called lost-wax casting, allows for detailed and durable bronze sculptures. This process, which can take between 6 weeks and 4 months, is known as lost-wax casting, and has been used for centuries and allows for highly detailed and durable bronze sculptures.
